Lanai was formed by a single shield volcano, Palawai, which erupted approximately 1½ million years ago.
Lanai is separated from Maui by the Pailolo Channel. Strong trade winds coming through create a venturi-like funnel with dangerously powerful currents and rough water.
Lanai is home to rare species of plants and endangered animals including the Hawksbill Sea Turtle.
Lanai is located near the center of the Pacific Ocean.
Lanai is just below the Tropic of Cancer.
Lanai is separated from Molokai by the Kalohi Channel.
